Dieser Nissan stammt aus einem Fundus von drei 240RS, die im Jahre 2008 von Kenia nach Deutschland kamen und seither komplett restauriert wurden. Dies stellte sich jedoch als schwerer heraus als gedacht, weil viele Ersatzteile nur noch schwer zu bekommen sind. Anders als bei vielen anderen Rallyefahrzeugen gibt es in Europa keine Straßenautos, die als Ersatzteilspender für Lampen, Zierleisten etc. fungieren können. Auch was die technischen Teile angeht, so war in der ganzen Welt nichts mehr zu finden und alles musste angefertigt werden.

Dieser Nissan 240RS wurde 1985 vom Nissan Team Europe in England aufgebaut und an den Kenianer Ashok Patel verkauft. Der Privatier lackierte das Auto rot und bestritt damit die Safari Rallye 1986, wo er ausschied. Anschließend wurde der Nissan gut zehn Jahre in der kenianischen Meisterschaft eingesetzt und holte dabei einen Gesamtsieg. Für die Slowly-Sideways-Veranstaltungen in Europa wurde der Nissan auf Asphalt umgerüstet und in den bekannten Nissan-Werksfarben lackiert – so wie der von Timo Salonen bei der RAC Rallye 1984. Natürlich hatte der Nissan bei der RAC Rallye 1984 gegen die Gruppe B-Autos mit Allrad und Turbolader keine Chancen auf den Gesamtsieg, aber ein schöner sechster Platz kam trotzdem heraus.

This car is one of three Nissan 240RS that were brought from Kenya to Germany in 2008 for participation in Slowly Sideways events. Unfortunately, the restoration process was not quite as easy as had been hoped because many of the spare parts needed are impossible to come by. In contrast to many other rally cars, there are no road versions of the 240RS left that can be used as donor cars for parts. Even for the technical parts there simply was nothing left in the world and all had to be remade.
Yesterday: Timo Salonen/Seppo Harjanne, RAC Rallye 1984
This Nissan 240RS was built by Nissan Team Europe (Blydenstein) in England and then sold to Ashok Patel as a customer car. The Kenyan painted the car in red and entered the 1986 Safari Rally where it retired. Than this 240RS was used in the Kenyan National Championship for ten years where it won one event overall. For the Slowly Sideways events, which are mostly held on tarmac, this car was put back to European specification and painted in the livery of the Nissan works cars like Timo Salonen drove it on the RAC Rally in 1984. Of course, the Nissan had no chance of overall victory in the 1984 RAC Rally against the Group B cars with four-wheel drive and turbochargers, but it still managed a respectable sixth place.

Cette voiture fait partie d’un lot de trois, qui ont été ramenées du Kenya en 2008, dans le but de participer à des épreuves Slowly Sideways. Le travail de restauration s’est malheureusement avéré plus compliqué que prévu, en raison de pièces détachées difficiles à trouver. En effet, contrairement aux autres autos de rallyes, il n’y a pas eu en Europe de version routière de la 240RS. On ne trouve donc pas sur le marché de voiture sur laquelle prélever un phare, un élargisseur, etc.. Il en a été de même pour les pièces mécaniques qui sont introuvables et qui ont de ce fait dû être refabriquées.

Cette 240RS a été construite en Angleterre par le Nissan Team Europe (Blydenstein) puis vendue à Ashok Patel. Le pilote kenyan l’a peinte en rouge avant de l’engager au Safari Rally 1986 où il a abandonné. L’auto a ensuite été utilisée dans le Championnat National Kenyan dont elle a remporté un rallye. Pour les événements Slowly Sideways, qui se déroulent le plus souvent sur le tarmac, cette voiture a été remise aux spécifications européennes et peinte dans la livrée des voitures d’usine Nissan comme Timo Salonen l’a conduite sur le RAC Rallye en 1984. Bien sûr, la Nissan n’avait aucune chance de remporter la victoire finale au RAC Rallye 1984 face aux voitures du groupe B équipées de quatre roues motrices et d’un turbocompresseur, mais elle a tout de même décroché une belle sixième place.
